More California dogs arrive at Edmonton Humane Society

Edmonton Humane SocietyA flight chartered by the Orange Dog Foundation with support from TD Waterhouse has given a new leash on life to another 45 small bred dogs.

They arrived in Edmonton on Thursday, saved from being euthanized due to overcrowded shelters in California.

The dogs were taken to the Edmonton Humane Society where Shawna Randolph says you’ll find a variety to choose from.

“In the past it’s been mainly Chihuahuas.” said Randolph. “But on this flight we notice there’s a lot of Mini-Pinchers, some Terriers, some Poodles, Shih Tzus, Maltese…so a lot of them are more of that type of dog. We have very few actual Chihuahuas on this flight, this time.”

Randolph says the dogs are already spayed or neutered and will be adopted out over the next few weeks.

“But I do want to stress that although there’s so much hype around these, we do have regular, Alberta born dogs and cats and birds. And we always encourage people that, although these California dogs are wonderful, to always consider the other animals that we have in our care.”
